Seek His Face

My heart says to thee, “Thy face, LORD, do I seek.”

-Psalm 27:8

This is truly what my heart said the other morning. But what does it mean to seek the face of the Lord?  According to St. Jerome it means to come before the altar of God and be confronted by the mystery of the Savior. God’s altar is most definitely the physical table that stands in each Catholic church, but I believe we speak of more mystical altars here. An altar is where we enter into the Paschal mystery: the mystery of Christ’s suffering, death, and resurrection. It is here where He appears in the flesh; offering Himself to us body, blood, soul and divinity. There are many mystical altars in this world. Many places that Jesus asks us to humble ourselves to receive Him. Many places where He gives Himself to us. Allow yourself to be confronted with the mystery of the Savior at all the mystical altars in this world.
